    • Distance Educator & Teacher Mentor
      • Nov 2010 - Present

As a Distance Educator with LINC Home Study Canada, I am responsible for assessing the needs of students to develop a goal-oriented learning plan that complements the existing material on the Learning Management System. I also provide one-on-one customized CLB referenced lessons during weekly conversations utilizing a variety of interactive web-based tools. In addition I have served as a trainer and mentor for new teachers to our program. It is, indeed, the most rewarding job I have ever had the pleasure of doing. Show less

    • National Language Placement and Progression Guidelines and CLARS Advisory Committee Member
      • Jan 2014 - Mar 2014

I worked with other committee members to create solutions to challenges facing LINC Home Study as we implemented the CLARS and the new National Language Placement and Progression guidelines. In addition, we strived to foster awareness, communication and training for instructors with LINC Home Study Ontario and LINC Home Study Canada.

    • Content Developer
      • 2013 - 2013

In collaboration with colleagues, I completed developing content for the LINC Home Study program. The aim of the project was to create CLB referenced, task-based lessons with a focus on pragmatics. Each lesson included an assessment piece that was aligned with the CLB and was adapted from the model presented in the CLB Support Kit. As part of our program mandate, it is expected that each student advance by one benchmark in one skill area within a six month period; therefore, application of the CLB to classroom planning is essential. • LINC Instructor and Teacher Mentor
      • Jul 2015 - Present

As a multi-level LINC instructor, it is a pleasure to design a four skills course based on the results of a class needs assessment, student goals, LINC themes and the 2012 Revised CLB. In addition, PBLA enhances the learning and assessment process for the students allowing them greater ownership of their studies. They enjoy the benefits of assessment as learning and being able to monitor their own progress through the benchmarks. I am also a strong proponent of integrating technology in the classroom. Students are involved in taking control of what they learn and how they learn it via an interactive learning plan that can address the needs of students who are shift workers and those who miss class. Some are reticent to delve into the world of technology, but with support, they ultimately benefit from the wealth of web-based tools and realia the internet provides. In addition, St. George's enjoys a close proximity to Conestoga College, so the opportunity to mentor teachers in training during their practicum continues to enhance my own practice. Show less

    • Summer Conversation and Pronunciation Instructor
      • Jul 2015 - Aug 2015

Conversation strategies and pronunciation tips are the focus of my evening class for adults. From small talk to sentence stress, I am responsible for scaffolding learning opportunities in different contexts. Students also enjoy our extra practice collaborative class page on GoogleDocs where they have access to videos, the ability to comment and share their own resources and explore additional online material at their own pace.

    • Regional Teacher Trainer
      • 2012 - Present

As the Regional Trainer for the LINC Home Study program model, I am responsible for delivering a three day training program to new service providers across Canada using an online delivery platform. I have edited and adapted six training modules that incorporate web based tools to facilitate interactive learning and online collaboration. The modules cover topics such as Using the Canadian Language Benchmarks for Lesson Planning and Policies and Procedures Governing the Good Conduct of the Learning Management System. The training is delivered to each service provider separately giving me an opportunity to reflect on each session and make changes accordingly. Show less
