Lead researcher on projects looking into issues such as vision impaired people’s experiences of abuse and ‘honour’-based violence referrals and referrals involving counter-allegations at multi-agency risk assessment conferences (Maracs) in Scotland. This has involved designing and testing appropriate data collection techniques, keeping funders informed of our progress and ensuring that I swiftly identify and address any issues that arise throughout the duration of the project. Worked with external academic partners to research and write a systematic review of studies evaluating informal social support interventions for victims/survivors, where I was responsible for helping to develop the search protocol and inclusion and exclusion criteria, searching for grey literature, screening and coding studies and leading discussions with our advisory group. The protocol has now been published in Campbell Systematic Reviews, with the full review forthcoming. Independently researched and wrote briefings looking at the experiences of particular populations, such as trans people and bisexual women, utilising large quantitative datasets as well as grey literature. These briefings included recommendations for the policy changes needed to support these victims/survivors of abuse, and were used to inform the SafeLives submission to the Home Office´s call for evidence for their VAWG strategy. Use advanced Excel skills to analyse quantitative data collected by frontline domestic abuse services to better understand the profiles of their clients and to evaluate the services’ performance. I present this analysis to service managers through quarterly dashboards and annual reports and presentations. Show less

Mar 2020 - Aug 2022
As a charity with no full-time staff, the Sophia Forum is run predominantly by its trustees, which requires me to be dedicated as well as highly-organised to be able to manage these responsibilities alongside those of my paid employment. I assist in organising and overseeing our main research project, through which we are collecting and analysing qualitative data on women’s experiences of ageing with HIV and using this to raise awareness of pertinent issues. This also involves liaising with our academic and third sector partners and ensuring that we maintain positive professional relationships with them. I recently analysed the 75 responses we received for a survey we had sent out to our service users regarding their experiences and concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic and wrote a detailed report containing both qualitative and quantitative data which I sent to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on HIV and AIDS in response to an inquiry they had initiated. Research and Policy Intern
-
Mar 2020 - Jun 2020
I was responsible for policy and legal research, independently conducting desk-based research analysing a wide range of government policies that facilitate sexual exploitation, focusing on how certain groups of people, such as migrants, LGBTQ+ individuals and those with experience of the criminal justice system are at even greater risk of being sexually exploited and how intersectional identities can further exacerbate these risks. Through this research I produced a series of policy papers including recommendations for changes to legislation and policy which are intended to influence politicians and other high-level stakeholders, and I therefore needed to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and attention to detail. I supported campaigning activities through researching and collating relevant data and drafting letters to public officials and other high-level influencers. My role also involved identifying potential partners and other stakeholders who may have been interested in working with us, which required the ability to understand the aims and objectives of many different organisations as well as strong interpersonal skills in order to build positive professional relationships with them. Service Development and Delivery Manager
-
Nov 2015 - Aug 2018
After having first obtained the position of Project Coordinator, I was promoted to Manager within six months. I subsequently line managed one third of our employees while simultaneously project managing several long-term operational and strategic projects, proving myself capable of working under pressure, juggling multiple tasks and altering priorities according to changing circumstances. I organised and ran focus groups and meetings to research the needs of our vision impaired service users and then utilised my strong written and verbal communication skills to present these findings in briefings to colleagues within the charity as well as to partners and stakeholders in order to advise on future strategies and projects. Through representing East London Vision at various local and regional stakeholder meetings, I developed effective working relationships with key actors across the private, public and third sector, and I also took the initiative to approach new organisations to discuss possibilities of partnership working, which led to several new partnership projects. I honed my written and oral communication skills through giving presentations and writing detailed reports for our board of trustees, co-authoring funding proposals and overseeing our social media accounts. Despite being new to the sight loss sector and having no prior knowledge of vision impairments, I conducted research in my own time in order to ensure that I learnt as much as possible about this, and as a result was leading training on vision impairment awareness within two months of starting my role. English Second Language Teacher

Aug 2014 - Jun 2015
I taught accelerated English to small classes of 3-5 students and basic English to classes of 70+ students. This necessitated flawless organisation skills as I had to prepare each lesson independently and from scratch, as well as excellent verbal communication skills, having to communicate verbally to students with varying levels of English. After teaching my highest level class for two months, the students requested for me to give them extra classes to help them prepare for life in universities outside of China. I was more than happy to take on this extra responsibility, and I independently designed my own programme of classes based on subject areas that they had not covered in school before, including women’s rights and LGBT rights. These classes had the highest attendance rate of any classes in that year group. Frequent mishaps such as equipment failures required me to be quick-thinking and use my initiative to solve problems, ensuring that I was able to find solutions whilst maintaining control of the class. As group leader in three different projects being undertaken simultaneously, I successfully managed my groups of international volunteers to ensure that no deadlines were missed, which necessitated excellent organisation and task prioritisation skills. Based on interviews and focus groups used to identify key areas where knowledge of human rights was poor, I designed workshops, seminars and lessons to educate the Ghanaian public about these areas of human rights, and then took a lead role in delivering these as well as conducting follow-up focus groups to gauge their success. I quickly built strong relationships with the local communities with whom we interacted, ensuring that I was aware of and sensitive towards cultural differences. Show less
