Computer Society President & Founder

Before starting my second year at University I realised there was a gap in the Societies present, the University did not have a Computer Society so I enquired about forming the first SMU Computer Society (SMUCS) and through surveys and questionnaires I found it would be worthwhile setting up a society for this purpose. I got together with several Students and requested those who are interested in applying for Society Management roles to apply with their experience they can bring to the society and a reason they would be suitable for the role. After several weeks I assigned a Vice-President and a Treasurer/Secretary to the Society and then additional members to oversee the memberships, web content and events.I gathered promotional material and done a large promotional push for the Society to get members to join us, arranged a freshers fare stall which involved speaking to Students direct and convincing them to join the Society for a fee of £1, at the end of this day we left with 32 sign-ups on our first day, now today the Society is one of the largest Societies with nearly 100 students.In addition to gathering the promotional material I created a front-end and back-end management system for the Societies website.

This role involved being main Cashier and Customer Service on tills, which allowed me to gain valuable experience in handling money and being the forefront of Customer Service dealing with Customer Queries and Complaints.
