I have worked with Nicky over the years in a number of capacities: As a mentor and coach on the Adam Science Leadership Program on which I was a participant; as consultant and key partner designing the Champions of Change Initiative at United Synagogue and as a colleague at LEAD. Nicky was instrumental in providing advice on when and how to adapt ‘Champions of Change’ to various circumstances and when to pivot and shift course in response to community needs. This adaptive leadership style was especially evident when building LEAD into a suite of Leadership development initiatives serving the community. As a colleague in the early days prototyping LEAD, Nicky’s skills as a team-builder and natural connector were deeply inspiring. Able to engage stakeholders from a diverse range of backgrounds and interests across the community, Nicky is a bridge builder who has won the respect and trust of community figures and leaders across a wide spectrum of concern ; the kind of respect that’s earned by being honest, having integrity, and being true to your word. Nicky is an exceptional communicator with a warm and reassuring presence. My own experience working with and alongside Nicky is that her key strength is her empathy and strength of character which is harnessed to empower others to lean into the best versions of themselves. Nicky is both reflective and responsive in adapting programs to the needs of the community and has been at the forefront of leadership development in the UK Jewish community, bringing a unique blend of insights from across the sector to establish what is now a premier address for leadership opportunities in the community. The last to seek accolades or praise and the first to give it, as Nicky’s colleague I have witnessed first-hand the continued encouragement and positive appreciation shown to those with whom Nicky engages as a community professional —- when the going is tough, you will want Nicky on your team! Nicky is a visionary, tremendously skilled at her craft of encouraging the very best in people — someone who saw a need for building leadership capacity in the community and patiently and diligently developed a tremendous resource in partnership with a wide array of stakeholders. LEAD began with as an idea and it has been a privilege to have seen not only the rapid traction the organisation has gained in the community but also the standing that Nicky has achieved as a nationally recognized thought-leader and public figure.
Sharon Wagner Zauder (she/her)
I have the distinct pleasure of Nicky being my Professional Mentor. I have returned to the UK after 20 years abroad and Nicky has been invaluable to me on so many ways. She has generously shared her professional knowledge, helped me navigate the complex transition with empathy, grace and spot on expert advice. She has empowered me to see the wider context of many of my experiences and helped guide me to better work practices. Her support of me both professional and personally have been vital to my well being and professional development.
