It is refreshing to know that in the ego dominated world of design, that there are people like Nick. Someone perfectly able to run the show, be the design manager etc. but more importantly, just as comfortable to work within a team. A perfect right hand man, working away quietly in the background, knowing what goes where, how systems are run etc. maintaining the everyday management of a drawing office. Someone above petty office politics, able to mentor both junior and senior staff, avoid or resolve conflict, yet at all times a thorough and exacting designer with his eye always on the details, knowing that it is in completing that last 5%, that makes a product a great one.

Nick is a capable, competent and innovative design engineer who has consistently impressed with his ability to deliver practical and effective solutions. I worked with Nick as a candidate when he made the decision to move to New Zealand. I was exceptionally impressed with the positive feedback and comments made about Nick by the people he worked with previously and through his more recent work.

Design of high spec gaming controllers for professional and domestic markets. The main product line consists of re-engineering existing OEM standard controllers to feature enhanced ergonomic functionality by increasing the availability and response time of inputs, increased robustness, plus enabling mass customisation through interchangeable features. I am primarily responsible for all Xbox controller projects and accessories. Whilst here I received a Corsair Inventor Award for the Instinct Xbox controller. By creating a robust and tolerant design, I created a "right first time" production build which removed the variability and need for on-line rework that existed with previous models. Show less

Working for an agency means diverse projects, ranging in size from one day of ideation or DFM, to full product development over several months. This work often involved collaborating with Industrial Design engineers to create viable concepts and products to take through the development process. Clients are from industries as diverse as Medical, Military defence, FMCG, and OEM. As a senior engineer I managed projects from initial client contact, generating proposals covering budget, scope, timescales as well as concepting, detail design, prototyping, testing, DFM and data-pack delivery. For a recent project I achieved a saving of £2330 per unit for a naval signal power amplifier by redesigning the fabrication to greatly reduce complexity and manufacturing costs whilst maintaining the rigorous operational requirements. Within the team I utilised my experience to specialise in DFM, fabrication, moulding, and mentoring junior members on manufacturing processes. Whilst here I implemented Solidworks PDM to help the company achieve ISO13485. Show less

Working with clients and staff generating mechanical design solutions in a busy and diverse design office. Projects vary in duration from months to hours depending on level of involvement required. This could cover concept generation from client briefs, providing manufacturing and fabrication solutions to the industrial design process, to full product development through client brief to working prototype delivery. Fields range from surgical instruments, electro-mechanical enclosures, mechanisms for medical devices, to injection moulded parts and industrial steel framework. This is a dynamic and varied role, working with the team in a vibrant, positive and creative environment. Show less
