May 2017 - Present
Contracted to aid in conversion from outdated IT ticket software to a newer system. Later transitioned to working remotely as a security analyst. My duties include: • Addressing the cybersecurity engineering ticket backlog via ServiceNow • Reviewing IT requests for accuracy and integrity • Collaborating with client company's engineers • Producing regular reports detailing workload and workflow • Monitoring and distributing incoming IT tickets. • Facilitating communication between Cybersecurity Engineers, Architects, and Technicians

Part of a group working with the STAR collaboration at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider at Brookhaven National Laboratory. My work involved constructing a simulation package for a subdetector of STAR, the so-called Vertex Position Detector. The simulation package replaces the previous software used for this purpose, and fully integrates into STAR's existing software framework, while also adding functionality and precision to the resultant output. This package has been included in STAR's mainstream production code following software peer review. 1. Developed and implemented a simulation package for the STAR collaboration at Brookhaven National Laboratory using C++ and Root operating on a computing cluster. • Contributed to a larger software framework • Enabled members of STAR to use the simulation in their physics analyses • Worked with an international collaboration of 13 countries • Mentored high school student on associated project 2. Performed trigger optimization of rare processes (one in several billion) at STAR. 3. Developed a highly adaptable parsing script using Python for reading published STAR data and uploading it to an open-access repository.

Designed novel method for remotely measuring the temperature of a critical component inside the Spallation Neutron Source beamline via a Digital Light Projection (DLP) chip. • Modified source code of experimental projector to control the embedded DLP chip via LabVIEW • Constructed the LabVIEW program to control the DLP chip. • Trained in standard DoE radiation safety procedures (Lock-Out Tag-Out, ALARA) As a separate project, developed a method for programmatically categorizing beam-loss waveforms. The program identified unique waveforms and the probable cause of beam-loss in each case, producing histograms in order to track trends.

Following the success of my project in 2013, additions were made to the experimental setup being implemented in the Spallation Neutron Source beam tunnel. I returned to my position to update and modify my previous work to accommodate these additions. I performed dispersion and sensitivity measurements on the beam upstream of the experiment's location, probing the extrema of the system. These new aspects of my position were key to optimizing the beam parameters entering the so-called "Interaction Point".

Used existing data repositories (openXAL) at the Spallation Neutron Source to construct a model that predicted particle trajectories downstream of an experimental magnet setup. • Scripts written in Jython (Python w/ Java classes) to mesh with the repository. • Reconstructed region as a three-dimensional model in G4Beamline to determine irradiation of magnets and support structures. Mixed a variety of parent compounds and doped superconductor samples utilizing the flux method of crystal growth. • Utilized arc welder, blow torch, and programmable sample furnaces. • Regularly handled pressurized gas bottles (oxygen, argon, butane) • Used both a VSM (Vibrating Sample Magnetometer) and PPMS (Physical Properties Measurement System) to characterize magnetic properties of produced samples. • Certified to teach new users proper usage of systems. Temporary position. Tasked with servicing Kroger locations across Middle Tennessee and Kentucky, operating a personal vehicle between stores. Moved 10 and 20 lb bags of ice from back stock freezers to front box. Work was highly independent; I planned optimal routes, determined the schedule, and carried out the service without direct supervision. Temporary position.
