I worked as a Support Worker under Community Employment at Tiglin Challenge Men's Centre, Ashford, Co. Wicklow. My role involved primarily facilitating new students in a group therapeutic environment, dealing with the expectations of the program, the beliefs, challenges and expectations of the students and interpersonal skills between them. There would also be an element of steering the students towards the discipline and process of the program. I was involved in music within the programme, IT tutoring, with a mind to offering the students some fundamental educational certificates, and supporting the site infrastructure.

Whilst studying my Counselling & Psychotherapy Degree, I help out at Ovoca Manor with any issues visiting groups have outside of normal office hours. I also help out with site issues. An example being to build a new decking for one of the on-site homes. I also volunteer with leading group activities for the visiting school aged groups which include Team Challenges and Orienteering. These help them to gain new awareness of themselves and learn new skills both independently and working as a team. Being a Christian organisation, there are opportunities for them to relate these challenges with the walk of faith. I have recently completed Belayer training to assist with instructing rope based activities (climbing wall etc) and I now hold a level 3 Wilderness First Aid qualification.
