  The Commissioner’s Council composes a small group of high profile advocates for Australian contemporary art. The role of the Commissioner’s Council is to actively champion the Australian representation at Venice Biennale to stakeholder groups, provide informal advice and feedback to the Commissioner, and where appropriate to assist in promoting the fundraising program. During the preview/Vernissage period in Venice, and at the second program, the Commissioner’s Council also carries out a range of activities which may include: · Assisting with International VIP ‘meet and greet’ at the official opening of the pavilion and other events. · Hosting events for the Champions in Venice. Generally ‘meeting and greeting’ Champions at all functions, as most Champions are well known to at least one of the Council members. · Assisting Australia Council staff in attendance at the Pavilion during the 3 days of the Vernissage to assist with welcoming visitors, specifically international groups, international collectors, dealers and artists. · Generally observing other national pavilions and providing market intelligence feedback to the Commissioner and the Australia Council on enhancing visitor experiences. · Laying groundwork for the next Biennale project, maintaining interest and following up Champions back in Australia following the Vernissage period.
