    • Semiconductor Manufacturing
    • 1 - 100 Employee
    • Manager, software systems engineering
      • Jan 1999 - Present

Responsible for architectural leadership, design, development, and deployment of the company’s software for current products. Products are largely Java/Network based, N-tier client/server based applications that make use of the latest in OO development practices. Products test: NVMe, SATA, SAS, PCIe, and USB based storage devices. Platform hardware embedded development under evolving environments. The whole Linux Stack on i686, Amd64, and Xilinx Ultrascale, along with Windows and Linux deployment, and support for customer-side development. Show less

  • 2402 Clover Basin Drive
    • Longmont Colorado
    • Staff Engineer
      • Jan 1992 - Jan 1999

Projects Included: SCSI based mid-range tape firmware: Responsible for architecture and design of record manager and Smart-Card memory code for a LTO format tape product. Java based RAID controller test environment: Responsible for architecture and implementing an object orienting test environment. This integrated test environment spanned multiple hardware platforms (Embedded and PC) and software (Java and C/C++) languages. Its OO design allowed for a high degree of code survivability and supported quick test case development schedules. SCSI Mixed RAID Controller: Responsible for testing, overseas support, and code development during this controller's development. Testing included SCSI compliance, hardware/software fault analysis, and data integrity, along with the development of test software. Overseas liaison activity included technical work along with on-site fault analysis, installation, and production support. 5.25 inch SCSI based multi-gigabyte hard drive: Responsible for development and sustaining engineering on the firmware for this disk drive, along with maintenance of many customer specific code versions. Responsible for tools used internally to the development group. These include a command driven SCSI initiator language, a test language interpreter, and a code debugger. 2.5 inch SCSI / IDE based hard drive: Responsible for testing/code development and production support on this disk drive. Testing included SCSI / IDE compliance, data integrity, hardware/software fault analysis, along with the development of test software. Production support involved firmware and hardware support and fault analysis as a technical liaison at a Japanese production facility. Show less

    • Senior Engineer
      • Jan 1989 - Jan 1992

Projects Included: SCSI based embedded servo tape drive: In the development of this tape drive, I handled the complete system digital hardware design using the NEC V25 micro. Wrote two of the three micros involved in the system. Coded a production servo writing station. Work on this system also included PCB design, servo algorithm development, motor control systems, closed loop control system development, test hardware-software, along with various simulators. Test and development support: Developed programs for media defect mapping that allowed for the separation of media versus drive problems. Developed software for a tape tracking evaluator that allowed for a better understanding of tape dynamics, and supported the design of a servo system for a tape drives with high TPIs. Show less

    • Programmer/Development Engineer
      • Jan 1986 - Jan 1989

Projects Included: 4-Bit Thermostat development: Worked on all stages of development for an electronic humidity corrected thermostat. Work included initial concepts, user interface, heating and cooling algorithm development, design and testing of the circuit. Wrote the actual thermostat code, along with development of the PCB, handled the electrostatic discharge testing, and aided in the writing of the manual.
