Started working with Nick when he was hired as a College Student during the summer. I later had two surgeries and Nick was asked to stay on for an extended amount of time. Later he was hired full time. Due to Nick's expertise with SQL Database Administration he was assigned to maintain the SQL database and software used to manage order management and maintenance. Later people were cut and Nick and I were the two IT people remaining and worked to maintain all systems in the mill. Systems consisted of four software packages, production system that used SQL to store all the information from order entry to billing. There were over 200 workstations and around 15 servers that we took care of. Main server room and switches throughout the mill connecting the mill network. Several production systems were linked into the mill network ex. PI Server collected AllenBradley data and could be retrieved for reports. We later had a program named Captstone installed that combined all the data sources into one system. The result was one reporting software could be used by employees for data from all sources PI, Honeywell, AllenBradley, Majiq SQL. We worked with contractors to maintain phone system, Network crisis along with our main office in Atlanta Georgia. We took care of other sites besides the paper mill. We did some travel when necessary to the recycling plants. Nick was very knowledgeable about networking and resolved issues that we had to rush to fix before production had to shut down. Nick also did real well programming barecode readers on the shipping forklifts. He also did really well working with the mill networked WiFi systems around the mill. Several buildings did not have network cable and the WiFi was used to get to these areas. We worked on some Visual Basic code to do tasks around the mill. Nick did some other programming I wasn't knowledgable in. Over all Nick was a very talented guy and easy to work with. Never angry or hostile towards anyone. Very friendly to everyone he worked with. If I had a question he usually had an answer or would find it.

Moved up from a summer college internship to head of on-site IT department. Responsibilities included being the resident SQL expert where I managed several SQL Server instances, and was in charge of such tasks as backups (Veeam), indexing, optimization, replication, clustering, login permissions, encryption keys and certificates, and wrote countless queries from very basic to advanced. I maintained and developed many MS Access databases and Excel files with extensive backend VBA procedures. I also gained experience administrating a Windows Server environment including Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, DNS, DHCP, DFS, and enterprise Anti-virus using Symantec's Endpoint Protection. We ran a mostly virtualized environment using VMWare ESXi servers managed through vSphere and stored on a MD3000i iSCSI SAN device. I replaced their aging phone system with a VOIP ready solution, and have extensive knowledge of network processes, devices, common issues, and troubleshooting procedures. Key Accomplishments: - Converted daily statistics report from a complicated text parsing process to a much more reliable and efficient SQL query out of the source data. - Developed several real-time dashboards out of DCS database to allow department operators to quickly see and react to results in process changes. - Implemented system-wide monitoring and alerting solution in order to decrease troubleshooting time by 60% and increase system reliability/uptime to 99.9%. - Replaced aging site phone system with a VOIP ready solution at 50% the cost ($250,000 savings) of retrofitting the existing PBX system. - Reconfigured site fiber topology to current standards resulting in a 33% decrease in network latency. - Developed truck gate check-in system to reduce on site truck inventory time from several hours a day down to just minutes.
