Nick has worked for me from 2007 onwards, he has worked on our I-Do as Team leader / Product Leader and Architect. He has owned and directed the product with diligence and detail that has led the product to where it is today as a leader in its field. His ownership of the product and complex issues that this field presents are taken in Nicks stride , his understanding of our Oil and Gas domain unquestionable, he is without doubt my best asset. He builds incredible teams that are capable of delivering complex industry leading software solutions. He works with Clients and Managers with an ease and authority that is gained on his domain, product and technical knowledge. His presentation skills and ownership in meetings is fantastic and he deals with questions, issues and problems with an assured manner that customers trust. He has led our Architecture for several years , also working and combining with members from other development centres to design our global strategy to bring our global software effort onto a single platform. Nick believes in his team being the best and is particularly strong in the area of development and mentoring. Not only does he mentor our software developers but our Petroleum engineers see Nick as their mentor.

I had the privilege to work under Nick Mcalonan for over 2 years in Edinburgh and during my tenure, I realized how dynamic, thought-provoking and result-oriented Nick is. He is a wonderful leader with expert technical and business consulting skills. He built a team of high performers both onshore and offshore. Nick has an eye for detail when it comes to business requirements elicitation. He goes extra mile to ensure that his team gets necessary assistance when needed. An incredible mentor for one and all. He is very approachable and a brilliant listener. He also empowers the team to challenge anything that’s not right. Moreover, his knowledge in oil and gas domain is unmatchable. I found him very proactive when it came to status reporting to middle/senior management or status gathering from subordinates. I feel honored to have worked under him, and during my 12 year period in Software industry I can honestly rate him as one of the top 3 managers I have ever worked under. Last but not the least, I feel he is a wonderful human being with care for all.

I've joined the wonderful world of Technology at OVO Energy, helping to build the most talented technology team in the UK! Today OVO is no longer simply an energy retail business: it is a group of innovative, dynamic companies, all striving to harness technological advances with great customer propositions. We are the leading innovator in energy technology, a sector that is currently experiencing a period of rapid change, always re-imagining how energy should be controlled in the digital age. Not only are we contributing to changes in supplying retail consumers; we are also creating an intelligent control platform for the grid itself, creating support for more renewable energy using batteries and electric vehicles. We trust our development teams to choose their tech stacks, you’ll commonly encounter Kotlin, Scala, TypeScript, Clojure, Node, Java, C#, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, React and React Native. We run our services in GCP, AWS and Azure. We’re looking for engineers with interest in the above, but your experience doesn’t have to match our stack. We’re interested in engineers with deep experience in similar technologies and also polyglots who are comfortable working across the stack. Show less
