      RAP was set up by my wife and I in 1996 on returning from a year living in Nepal. Where we made a video documentary with 9 young people from the remote Helambu region about life in a Yolmu Tibetan Buddhist village at nearly 3000 metres altitude. With this video we worked in schools and youth clubs in UK to try to challenge negative stereotypes about the so-called "third world". I was soon joined by Jo Huyg and Katy Bienart and many local volunteers (graffiti artists, musicians, djs, sculptors, photographers, drama people etc) as we began to experiment with the amazing tool of participatory video and other creative participatory processes working mostly with disadvantaged youth on the council estates around Oxford in the mid to late 90s. We often worked with the Agenda 21 vision, for participatory video enabled young people to analyse the issues in their communites, decide what they could do to change things for the better and this process acted as a catalyst for action and change!
