From September 2022, I have been a part time contract safety and security consultant and adviser with IMCA, the trade association for offshore, marine and underwater engineering contractors. The changes to my previous full-time role mean that I now focus on maritime and offshore safety, maritime security and internaI ISO 9001 and 27001 auditing within the secretariat. The hgh level experience of the marine contracting industry, working remains. I deliver the practical support of a trade association by informing decision makers – by applying up to date knowledge in good writing. I write and published all IMCA Safety Flashes, and facilitate, lead, and speak at seminars and technical events. I am responsible for the collection and presentation of industry safety statistics and the development of safety promotional material. My responsibilities include • Good writing in plain English - preparation of Safety Flashes, guidance documents, information notes, briefings and other publications; • Monitoring of technical, regulatory and political developments affecting marine safety and security; • Facilitating meetings and making presentations; • Briefing members and the Chief Executive; • Co-ordination of committees, workgroups and sub-groups, preparation of agendas and minutes, attendance at meetings and delivery of action items; • Representing members to a wide range of third-party organisations. From 2005 until mid-2022, I worked full-time with IMCA, the trade association for offshore, marine and underwater engineering contractors. I gained high level experience of the marine contracting industry, working with senior management, safety professionals, HR professionals and senior engineers in member companies. My role was to deliver the practical support of a trade association by informing decision makers – by applying up to date knowledge in good writing. I wrote complex and nuanced technical guidance, developed and published all IMCA Safety Flashes, and facilitated, led, and spoke at seminars and technical events. I was responsible for the collection and presentation of industry safety statistics and the development of safety promotional material. I prepared information notes, technology reviews, meeting minutes and other written material supporting the marine contracting and energy sectors. My responsibilities included • Good writing in plain English - preparation of Safety Flashes, guidance documents, information notes, briefings and other publications; • Monitoring of technical, regulatory and political developments affecting marine contracting; • Facilitating meetings and making presentations; • Briefing members and the Chief Executive; • Co-ordination of committees, workgroups and sub-groups, preparation of agendas and minutes, attendance at meetings and delivery of action items; • Representing members to a wide range of third-party organisations. Chief Observer

Worked on marine seismic survey projects on different vessels world-wide, including wide-tow multi-streamer and seabed seismic survey. My role was to lead and manage small multi-disciplinary teams, solving complex logistical and engineering problems under pressure of time, and hands-on workplace health and safety management. Main achievements: • 1997-1999: working with a multi-cultural/multi-lingual team from the former Soviet Union in fitting out Akademik Nemchinov as a seismic vessel, then, as her Chief Observer, driving cultural change in the workplace • 2000: Diplomacy and cultural change in the workplace on board Gilavar in the Caspian Sea, again working with multi-cultural/multi-lingual teams from the former Soviet Union • 2002-2003: Chief Observer on one of Schlumberger’s first Q-Marine vessels, Geco Searcher • 2003-2004: As Chief Observer on Western Patriot, again diplomatically stimulating, encouraging and leading organisational change in the context of a company merger Main responsibilities: • Operation, maintenance and repair of electronic equipment; • Writing and presentation of technical reports of all kinds; • Oversight of quality and HSE; • Liaison with the clients’ representatives and onshore technical support; • Management of inventory.
