Nick is a great collaborator who I saw grow into several different roles at Pared. Along his evolution, he took on more responsibility with higher visibility projects. He's a strong engineer and PM but something less tangible he contributed to was his positive impact on team culture—people truly enjoyed working alongside him. Any team would be so lucky to work with Nick!
Rudy Wen
What separates Nick is his ability to connect and bring people together from all parts of an organization to help deliver some of the most important product innovations. At Pared, I saw him grow from a full-stack engineer into an engineering lead that not only helped build the backend services but also coordinate and prioritize product features to launch Pared’s new full-time hiring platform. I would not hesitate to work with Nick in the future.

Pared is a two-sided marketplace in the gig economy. Restaurants post shift openings that kitchen professionals, “Pros”, can pick up and work individually as a gig. The team was comprised of 10+ engineers and a designer. I balanced our roadmap and helped maintain a prioritized backlog with high impact features for customers, pros, and internal operational improvements. I frequently ran analysis, conducted user research and feedback sessions pre and post launch. These projects required me to work cross functionally with many teams located in office and remote: Legal, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Support. Project highlights include: exploratory product work building a professional network for food service workers, building additional ways for customers to book gigs, an innovative gig check-in, and adding a W-2 gig marketplace alongside the 1099 gig work.

My first objective as a PM was to improve the business’ only revenue stream. We filled 79% of gigs this first week. We were heading into the busiest time of the year when demand was projected to double. I led a cross functional team of engineers, design, marketing, and operations to address this mission critical need. We were heading into the busiest time of the year when demand was projected to double. I led a cross functional team of engineers, design, marketing, and operations to address this mission critical need. In order to better understand the problem, I conducted user research and analysis of our funnels. We made product and operational changes to double the rate of pro applicants vetted and working a gig. In addition we implemented changes that halved Pros’ search-to-accept time for gigs. In order to broaden the number of customers we could service, I led role expansion for: Bartender, Barista, Cashier, Cleaner, and Front of House Support. The expansion process required research and consultation from industry experts to find how best we could service these customer needs. The Front of the House is a difficult portion of a restaurant to staff, due to the in-house knowledge required by hosts & servers; however, this led us to creating a new industry role, Front of House Support. I coordinated launch across all departments. In addition I led efforts with our collections team to transform our payment system into a modern accounting system. This required a lot of technical communications between our engineering team, our customer support team, and our finance team.

I was the engineering team lead in building out a second vertical for the business. This vertical is our fulltime hiring platform. I set up dev tools to make FE development more efficient, this included CI and a redux inspector.

For my first 3 months I was the only engineer. I built out features in node.js in our backend and react/redux on our front end. I was responsible for system architecture, schema design, automating systems, handled cross team communications, and helped grow the engineering team. I automated upfront pricing to customers, charging customers, payments to pros, and a shift offer escalation system to increase wages available to our pros.
