When Nick asked me to join his National Practice team at Wells Fargo Insurance, the first thing he did was ask me to develop my own IBNR methodology using a sample lag triangle. If this doesn’t make complete sense to the reader of this recommendation, don’t worry, I was in a similar place at the time. I was an employee benefits consultant with some exposure to self-funded medical plans and zero actuarial experience. Nick always seems to know the shortest path from status quo to next level. During our time working together at Wells and USI, he elevated the consulting approach of two large organizations without an adequate budget or the necessary tools. I attribute this to his forward thinking, lack of concern for obstacles and the care he brings to every project. That first IBNR exercise for Nick opened up my potential in ways I didn’t think were possible and during our years working together I continued to develop the same skills that I rely on today in my current role. I also look past obstacles and make things happen, abilities I directly attribute to him. If you need to advance your organization or yourself, reach out to Nick, you won’t be sorry.

Nick Allen is a special kind of expert. Sure, he has incredible subject matter expertise and a unique combination of advanced actuarial and technological skill that makes him an absolute force in his field. But the thing which I believe makes Nick the most special is his ability to make information speak a more common language with objectivity and, more importantly, usefulness. I still remember our introduction. After allowing me to drift around our conversation in the abstract for longer than I’d like to admit, Nick respectfully and politely complimented my observation and effectively brought me back to earth with the perfect question,
