I had the good fortune of collaborating with Nick Gearing for two years putting together professional development instructional strategies for the Common Core standards. It was a huge undertaking that required a great deal of time and energy to plan everything out on paper and then bring it to life for the staff. Nick has a unique gift in his ability to look at a concept and grasp its overall meaning quickly. And, I mean lightning fast. This enabled us to move forward with a laser focus as to what was needed to begin and cultivate the implementation process. We were able to play off of each others strengths and create, what we felt was credible, on point, information for professionals to move their practices forward. I learned a great deal by working with Nick and gained an immense level of respect for his passion, knowledge and commitment to the art/science of teaching. I would welcome the opportunity to work with him again in any facet of the educational setting. I would recommend Nick for any and all educational leadership positions that he may apply for as he has prepared himself for the next stage of his educational career.

As a 9th grade English teacher, I have inherited many of Nicholas' students during his time teaching at Hillcrest Middle School. By far, Mr. Gearing's students enter high school with skills far beyond my expectation. They have working knowledge of rhetoric, annotation and research which is often lacking in students from other feeder school teachers. Additionally, my 9th grade students who had Mr. Gearing last year talk about him with fond memories including how much they learned and how prepared they feel for my class. It is refreshing to finally have students truly prepared for the rigor of my honors class so that I don't have to spend my instructional time remediating. Mr. Gearing truly cares about his students learning and will go the extra mile to make it happen.
