My role with Superior Gold consists of designing and implementing exploration programs to meet the requirements of the business, with a focus on the regional tenements within the Bryah basin. Ultimately progressing them from grass roots, early-stage projects all the way through to resource definition, and handover to the open pit mining team. This was done by review and interpretation of historic exploration, geochemical and geophysical datasets, target ranking, and finally designing a program that meets the budget for the program. I also handled all of the day to day geology, including logging. In addition to the design and execution of exploration programs, I was also responsible for the exploration budget, scheduling of work and expenditure, and ensuring we kept our tenements in good standing with the DMP and our JV partners. My role with Japan Gold Corp was based out of Hokkaido, the Northern most island of Japan, working on the companies flagship Ikutahara gold project. The Ikutahara Gold Project is a low sulphidation, epithermal deposit situated in the historic mining town of Ikutahara in the Monbestu district, roughly 7.5 hours by train from Sapporo. I was employed on a 6:2 roster. During my time employed by Japan Gold Corp as a contract exploration geologist, I had the privilege of working alongside a close knit, multicultural team of highly experienced geologists. Out of the geological team, I was the youngest member by at least 10 years, and the only westerner who wasn't in a senior management position. My duties as a contract exploration geologist consisted of detailed mapping of historic workings, as well as the geology. This was accomplished by traversing the mapping area looking for outcrop, and walking streams, rivers and tributaries. This was challenging as the terrain in the mapping area was extremely mountainous and had a large population of Japanese brown bears. In addition to mapping, I was part of the team conducting a broad scale outcrop, float and historic mine workings sampling program, whereby rock samples were collected, logged, cut into slabs and send for assay. A piece of the sample was kept onsite in the slab library for future reference. Reviewing of historical reports and academic papers was also conducted, however they needed to be translated into English first. I was ultimately made redundant due to delays in government approvals for drilling, resulting in an investor delaying the next tranche of money being released to the company. Show less

After my graduate program finished, I was promoted to exploration geologist, where my duties were the same as what I was doing as a graduate geologist. In this role, my roster changed to being primarily Perth based after 6 months in the role, with travel to site occurring every third week. At first I was working from home, then from the Kidman office, before finally working from the office of our joint venture company, Covalent Lithium. My duties whilst working from home were mainly administrative and generative in nature, whereby most of my time was spent planning future soil sampling programs, planning drill programs and interpreting various datasets.During this time, the company was handing over the project to Covalent Lithium, so I assisted the JV team as needed.I resigned from this role to pursue another opportunity Show less

My graduate program with Kidman Resources began when the companies primary focus was on gold exploration. This was being conducted at their tenements in the Forrestania Greenstone Belt near Southern Cross. For the duration of my graduate program I was working on a 2:1 roster, taking the prospector from East Perth to Southern Cross train station, and occasionally driving back to Perth as required.Very early into my graduate program, the companies focus shifted towards exploring for lithium, with gold exploration still being conducted as needed and subject to rig availability. My primary duties as a graduate geologist were;Assisting the Senior and Project geologists run exploration drilling programsPreparing sample bags and sheetsLogging diamond core and RC chipsSupervising drilling crews and ensuring they are following the correct safety procedures whilst delivering high quality sampleAdministrative duties, including data entry, data mining, data management, QA/QC, and report writingGenerating basic models in micro-mine and designing drillholes to test these modelsInterpreting geologic dataField mapping Generating Gold, Lithium and Base metal exploration targets on a number of tenements for soil sampling and drilling programsAssisted with the resource drill out of the World Class Earl Grey lithium depositPlan and execute a comprehensive soil sampling program across a number of tenements in the Forrestania Greenstone Belt, consisting of roughly 18,000 samplesPlan and execute a sterilisation drilling program for infrastructure/engineering purposes. My graduate program ended after 1 year and 10 months, after which I was promoted to an exploration geologist. Working as a contract exploration geologist for Terra Search allowed me to work on a number of projects, across a wide range of commodities for a raft of different clients. With Terra Search I conducted a large scale stream sediment sampling program in the Pilbara, with the primary focus being on gold and lithium. This was conducted over a period of a week, with the aid of quad bikes. I also conducted a large soil sampling program for an international asx listed Li explorer, searching for Li bearing pegmatites near Paynes Find. This program took place over 2 weeks, and was also aided with the use of quad bikes. I also assisted Newmonts Regional exploration team with some near mine exploration on their Tanami operation in the Northern Territory. This saw me assisting with the collection and categorisation of historic diamond core, which was undergoing petrographical and hyper spectral analysis. I departed Terra Search after being offered a full time position within an exploration company. Show less

At Mt Gibson Iron I was responsible for sampling the grade control/blast holes and dispatching them to the lab. I was also responsible for completing ore block mark outs and ore spotting when required. Some of my other duties included data entry of the truck fleet production numbers, and digitising the geologists pit mapping sketches into surpac when required. I assisted the drill and blast team with loading the blast holes with anfo and detonators, and assisting with the tieing in, and detonation of the shot. I helped the survey department conduct surveys of the waste dumps, ore stockpiles, ROM and pit on a monthly basis, and helped mark out drill patterns within the pit for drilling. I was passed out on operating a skid steer loader, which I used to maintain the weigh bridge as one of my miscellaneous tasks. The drop in the Iron Ore price ultimately saw my position made redundant. Show less

Whilst I was employed at Northern Star as a vacation student, I was also completing my studies at the Western Australian School of Mines(WASM). I was working 3 days a week, after classes and on the weekends. During my breaks from University, I was was working 5 days a week. I was employed as a vacation student, working from the exploration office on William street in Kalgoorlie and assisting the exploration team with near mine, and regional exploration work. My primary focus was assisting with the near mine exploration of the Kundana projects, including the resource drill out of the Pegasus deposit. My duties consisted of processing and logging diamond drill core, sieving, logging and sampling RC holes, and general day to day running of drilling programs, and assisting the exploration geologists as needed. I was lucky enough to be put in charge of the drilling of two paste fill holes, drilled from surface using an RC rig, which were later reamed to accommodate 150mm welded casings. Unfortunately my University requirements dictated I return to Perth to complete my studies. Show less
