As a member of the powertrain team in SAE Baja, we are tasked to find the best way to integrate a driveline in our Baja car. The TAMU Baja team creates a new car from scratch every year and this year, we have chosen to incorporate new and unique designs to achieve a light and reliable car, including the use of one way bearings to allow for slip of the front tires around a corner, as well as more custom components such as a custom transmission casing and spool housing. We will come up with a final powertrain design through iteration, create models, fabricate our models, and put our designs to the test against other schools at the national SAE Baja competitions that take place in Arizona, Illinois, and Kentucky. Responsible for: -Designing and implementing a four-wheel-drive system that is reliable and competitive. -Designing drive shafts that withstand a 450 lb-ft applied torque and a 2200 lb tension force. -Running fatigue calculations to ensure reliable running for over 5 hours -Placement and mounting of pillow blocks and driveshafts Show less
