As a volunteer and donating member of this organization I make periodic trips to this region in order to provide counseling services to young boys that are residents of a facility in Honda Colombia. Additionally, I interact with them in a social setting by providing sporting equipment such as basketballs and soccer balls and help organize informal competitions to help build relationships within the facility when the residents have traditionally lacked such close relationships in their pasts. I am required due to the setting to speak only in Spanish when interacting with the residents and staff. Show less

Provided emotional and academic counseling to students between 6th and 8th grade. Taught character development to young students (6th grade) and ran numerous groups established for the encouragement of morals, ethics and good citizenship. Provided services as an emergency psychiatric pre screener. Assisted in all aspects of development for IEPs, I&RS plans, 504s and worked to ensure implementation of all accommodations and assisting techniques. Developed and managed an emergency academic intervention program for students in danger of retention or of failing one or more courses. This program, with a full curriculum which I developed over two years ago, ran 8 weeks and resulted in certificates of accomplishment for 6 students and in positive academic outcomes for over 90% of the students involved in the program. Served as a Counselor for 350 10-12th grade students. Over 50 students above the typical caseload for BHS Counselors. This was the direct result of my being responsible for not only mainstream students but an additional second site for an alternative high school program. I was present at this alternate site approximately 1 day each week and was responsible for formulating academic programs, behavioral plans and 504s for each student attending the alternative program. Served as chief administrator of all state testing in alternative program including HSPA and ASHA testing. Implemented emergency academic intervention program for any student in danger of failing one or more courses which resulted in all eligible graduating students receiving their diplomas, graduating with their own cohort. Planned, developed, advertised and administered a Financial Aid night for over 10 different school districts, by working with Fairleigh Dickenson University. Served as a bilingual assistant to Spanish speaking families at this event. Show less
