I was selling LED landscape/pathway lights. I discovered a large supply of them at a low price and bought out the inventory. Sales for landscape/pathway lights decline in the fall and bottom out in the winter. Nevertheless, during the winter, I sold 2,923 lights, and 250 transformers and reels of wiring in 22 weeks WITHOUT a single return. The quality control at Westinghouse may be intermittent (if I'm being kind), but mine is unwavering. Many of the lights had scratches, dents, are missing pieces, or in some cases, don't work. Not one of those inferior lights has ever made it to one of my customers. I personally inspected, tested, and repackaged every single one. And even though the return rate for online sales is around 30%, I had ZERO. The quality control at Westinghouse may have been intermittent (or more accurately, non-existent), but mine is unwavering. MANY of the lights had scratches, dents, were missing pieces, or in too many cases, didn't work; several even died during my test (the LED would light up, then seconds later, would slowly fade away). Not one of those inferior lights ever made it to one of my customers. I even shot a video of how I test, inspect and repackage every light and put it on every listing. My shipments were also the most well-packaged packages in the history of shipping. Perhaps if more online merchants cared to make sure their customers knew exactly what they were buying, and took a little extra time making sure fragile items were properly packaged, then 30% of online purchases wouldn't be returned (30% is true, look it up; 9% for brick and mortar).
