My research in Dr. John Osborn’s lab is directed toward gaining a comprehensive understanding of the neural mechanisms involved with the long-term regulation of arterial pressure and hypertension. My current project is focused on measuring changes in hypothalamic sodium content in the DOCA-salt model of hypertension and the effect of chronic intracerebroventricular administration of a sodium channel blocker, benzamil, on this model. This work relates to the overall goal of the lab to understand the role the hypothalamus in salt-sensitive neurogenic hypertension.• Experimental design in physiology, pharmacology, and behavioral psychology research.• Critical reading and comprehension of physiology and neuroscience research.• Sterile surgical technique for: o Implantation of radiotelemetric transmitterso Implantation of arterial and venous catheterso Stereotaxic implantation of intracerebroventricular cannula• Statistical analysis and interpretation of physiological and behavioral data.• Oral presentation of complex scientific subjects to the general public.• Strong verbal communication skills.
