I am responsible for investigating allegations of child abuse and neglect. I complete my investigations by interviewing children, parents, relatives, service providers and witnesses to determine if the allegations are true or not. I complete written assessments in the form of notes and court reports. I am responsible for taking custody of children who need to be removed from their parents or guardians as a result of abuse or neglect. I work closely with law enforcement on joint investigations. The the difference between police and CPS is they are investigating a crime and CPS investigates the safety of a child (allegations). I have completed Case Manager Core offered through UC Davis which is mandated by the State of California Dept of Social Services. I have attended numerous training to cover all aspects of child safety which include child and human trafficking, Safety Organized Practice, forensic interviewing and many more. Overall, I would estimate I have investigated over 1500 cases of child abuse over almost 7 years. Show less

During my employment here I started out as a reunification social worker. I was responsible for case management services by monitoring parents engagement in services for them to get their children back. I would report the parents progress to the Judge through a court report. I would also provide services referrals for children and parents so services such as counseling could be offered. I would testify in the court as to the parents progress or failure and make recommendations for reunification or termination of the parents rights. I was in this position for 1 year. After 1 year I requested to go into the investigations unit to investigate allegations of child abuse and neglect. In this position, I was the first responder to investigate the allegations of abuse and neglect. I completed my investigations through interviews of children, parents, family, service providers and witnesses. I would gather documents to support the evidence such as police reports, medical records and services provider notes. I would take custody of children if necessary and them prepare a court report and testify to my findings. In this position, I would estimate that I investigated roughly 500 cases. Show less
