  • Undertook, either as a part of a team or alone, several financial and performance audits of the Community Councils of Cyprus, within specific timeframes as part of the department’s annual audit plan. The audit tasks included areas such as financial statements, budgets, tenders, payroll, registries, community tax charge and collection, water supply management, IT system controls, as well as inventory counts, fraud investigations, investigation of complaints, surprise surveys, cash counting, legal compliance of the Community Councils and conduct of the relative correspondence. • Prepared a number of audit and other reports based on the above duties, giving the Community Councils and the Ministry of Interior a better insight into operational and financial issues and recommending improvements to enhance control and performance. We discovered a few cases of fraud, which were brought to justice.• Involved in the training of new employees, concerning the audit of the Community Councils.• Headed a number of engagement teams comprising new employees by organising and supervising their work during the audit. Reported directly to my Senior Principal Auditor.• Actively involved in the outsourcing of the audits of the Community Councils and the whole tender process. • Participated in tender evaluation committees for tenders concerning the Audit Office.• Reviewed a large number of audit reports of Community Councils prepared by private audit firms, in order to assure their quality and to authorise their payment from the Community Councils.• Participated in the audit of the central government, held by another department of the Audit Office. • Participated in the audit of the overdue debts of the Greek government held by the Greek Court of Audits, after a request of the European troika.• Participated in an inspection of the Commission for the Protection of Competition (C.P.C.) of the Republic of Cyprus.
