I have worked at multiple companies on various projects for Enterprise clients. Nick is the first person that comes to mind when I have a question on DevOps. Nick has an incredible talent of looking at complex enterprise workloads and pipelines; and breaking them down into functional pieces that can be brought together into whatever framework matches the goals the groups he is working with. While having having an incredible depth of knowledge, Nick still can take a step back and explain technical concepts plainly so anyone could understand. As a coworker, Nick is an incredible teammate who always carries his weight and beyond, while keeping morale high with his quick wit. I cannot recommend Nick enough.

I have worked closely with Nick in the past, during his Amazon adventure, and I can confidently say that he possess the technical skills and passion for building high available and scalable systems (using AWS technologies). With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of software architecture, Nick is a true team player, always willing to help and collaborate with his teammates to deliver high-quality projects on time. I highly recommend Nick for any software/ systems development positions!

      * Senior DevOps/Systems development engineer responsible for designing, creating and maintaining large scale automation in collaboration with Legal and HR teams within Amazon. * Designed a data lake solution for large scale data ingestion and reporting. * Data lake ingested messages from Kinesis streams to S3, S3 event triggers to send events to SQS. Messages were consumed by Fargate service to load events into a large scale DynamoDB table. Designed and implemented DDB schema to process petabyte-scale data ingestion and querying. * Automated internal IT process to track and ship Amazon IT assets from employees. * AWS backend using Step Functions, Lambda, DynamoDB. Data was loaded into Athena, and Step Function execution was run daily from a CloudWatch event. * Automated onboarding Amazon employees to an internal printing system. * AWS solution using SQS driven by SNS events, triggering Lambda to query an Athena data source, then use an internal API to import users into the printing database. * Scaled to handle upwards of 20+ million events per day on a global Amazon IT footprint. * Lead effort to refactor existing internal AWS application to adopt strong two-factor authentication as part of an internal security/AppSec initiative. * Integrated 3rd party product into internal data lake for legal discovery via the 3rd party REST API. * Step Function backend integrated with Lambda, DynamoDB, EFS and S3. * Collaborated with legal and HR teams to package and export data for external legal cases and requests. • Automation and DevOps engineer, primarily responsible for creating custom solutions for clients to automate and simplify internal business processes, technical operations, and infrastructure/application deployment. • Managing and deploying Enterprise-level cloud environments and applications, typically within highly sensitive and monitored environments for clients. Also responsible for reviewing and reporting on security issues/preventive auditing for clients with auditing compliance restrictions. • Integrating multiple independent systems as part of overall automation workflow, i.e. Terraform for creating/destroying the needed cloud infrastructure/VMs, Puppet/Chef for configuration management, systems compliance, and Ansible for ad-hoc tasks, CM, and inventory reporting. • Created custom solutions to fit highly specific business needs, in one project: creating a custom ServiceNow integration to enable a client to create/approve ServiceNow requests for cloud VMs (giving options for CPU size, disk space, needed software, etc.), which would kick off a Terraform run using parameterized templates to build the VM(s), which installed the Puppet agent, installing the needed software, and updating the ticket request in ServiceNow to indicate completion/status. This was an end-to-end solution that resulted in complete automation of a previously manual task across multiple departments. • Created project SoWs in order to define project deliverables, timelines/time estimates, task breakdowns and overall project approach/vision for automation/DevOps projects. • Responsible for developing and disseminating a general approach to DevOps consulting, custom solution creation and internal product development within the larger consulting team.
