Twenty years later and I can still count on his smart, strategic, and fact-driven commitment to empowering everyone he works with and on behalf of! The labor movement was smart to pull him in and cultivate his talent over a decade ago. I am glad I saw first-hand his hard-working passion, especially for empowering communities of color and developing leadership from all walks of life.

As a member of Assembly Speaker Heastie's office, I connect with constituents to stay aware of the needs and concerns in our district and then collaborate on problem-solving measures. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented unique and urgent challenges which have necessitated more diligent outreach and communication both to make critical decisions about prioritization of resources and to disseminate 200+ daily meals to NYCHA residents. As Political Coordinator, I had the great responsibility of planning and implementing member-led political engagement programs which included GOTV events, canvassing, and organizing members during legislative reform initiatives on critical issues such as workers’ rights, economic development, immigration, healthcare, and more. Additionally, I was a voice of the union and its members with local, state, and federally elected officials. To keep our membership strong, I mobilized and trained members and activists through our Social Justice Leadership Academy, prepped them for lobby days, rallies, and press events on critical issues. In this role, I was part of the Union's “Fight-Back” team organizing against aggressive attempts by residential and commercial building owners to rollback wages and benefits that our members depended on to support their families. My portfolio as a delegate included 300+ residential buildings across Harlem and Washington Heights where I represented 2,500+ rank-and-file residential union members and helped organize and manage ~100 member leaders. Additionally, I coordinated contract campaigns with union negotiators on ~six contracts. Show less
