Event Officer
-
Sep 2020 - Sep 2021
During my time in this role, I both engineered a series of successful events and acted as coordinator of the society's college representatives. I hosted a number of well attended events including 'Pharmacogenetics: Past, Present, and Future' with NHS Chair of Pharmacogenetics, Prof. Sir Munir Pirmohamed; 'GMO Biotechnology in Veganism' with Adrian Lang, Managing Director at Plamil Foods, and Tal Globus, Real Vegan Cheese Team Representative and Biotech Engineer. Furthermore, I helped run renowned OUBT Biohackathon for 2021, working alongside Prof. Hagan Bayley, Dr. Alex Hamilton, Dr. Elodie Siney, and Dr. Markus Gershater. Overall, this role on the OUBT Committee afforded me skills in leadership, organisation and, crucially, communication. It honed my skills in public speaking and ability to think big, reaching out to experts in the field in question to upgrade our event ideas.

Contributing Writer

I enjoyed my position as Contributing Writer at PHASER magazine; it enabled me to engage in an interest removed from my day to day work in Medicine. Furthermore, it enhanced my communication skills and ability to work within a team. Coming together to publish a cohesive publication addressing current issues, e.g. climate change, expression of individuality within the confines of fashion was a refreshing and rewarding experience.
