Visual Merchandising and Marketing Intern

Jan 2018 - Sep 2018
Worked in the L'Oreal head office in the luxe department under the premium skincare brand, Kiehl's. My role had a heavy focus on working with designers and the team on marketing materials for NPD to install in Kiehl's stores. My favourite launch was for Kiehl's 'Glow' product. The installation of the merchandising included 'naturality' to embody the ingredients of the product and the values of the brand. Alongside this, I coordinated with internal business divisions and agency partners to guarantee on-time, cost-effective delivery of marketing communications. The main focus of the communications was for the consumer sampling panel that I managed. The sampling panel was a platform used to gain new reviews on products. I would run this monthly on particular products from new launches to products that needed a boost in their profile, as we saw a direct correlation in products that had a number of reviews vs those that didn't. Further, I worked closely with the digital marketing team in creating new weekly CRM emails for the brand. I thoroughly enjoyed working on new email communications because it was interesting to see what worked best in terms of click-through rates. I found that a large 'hero' image at the beginning was what statistically saw better results per email. Alongside the marketing aspects of my role, I also managed the new store openings across the UK and Ireland. This visual merchandising aspect to my role included a lot of out of office experience. One particular eye-opening project was the installation of Kiehl's in Selfridges Trafford center. As the installation was underneath the Selfridges umbrella there were more processes and guidelines to follow in comparison to the Kiehl's store openings, therefore I had to work as best I could to merchandise the brand under these guidelines. The creation of visual marketing and styling of window displays meant that I would often undertake competitor reviews, starting my office days on Oxford Street.
