After returning from my Erasmus year in Seville, i was sucessful in interview to again work with Scotmid. However due to my previous experience and knowledge within the company, i joined the business through the role of Duty Supervisor. Being the member of staff running the store during designated shifts has not only allowed me to use all my previous knowledge gained in Scotmid but also strength key skills including time management, communication and organisation. This is a busy, fast paced retail store. I started on the shop floor filling shelves but with staffing difficulties due to the Covid pandemic I had to quickly step up to cover all aspects of the store. I illustrated that I can be versatile and adaptable and take responsibility for a range of tasks as and when required. Working across other stores to help cover staffing gaps, I demonstrated that I am proactive and flexible in my approach and recognise the importance of good teamworking. No two days in Scotmid were ever the same. I could be serving on the tills, working on stock management, liaising with head office and completing various store administrative duties and then carrying out end of day procedures to close down the store. To be able to complete all my tasks I had to manage my workload and time effectively and efficiently. My time at Scotmid help me build great customer service skills. Helping a vast range of customers, you recognise the importance of adding to the customer’s experience in the store. Great customer service skills, everything from taking ownership of customer complaints through to a simple thank you, helps build repeat business for the store. Show less

After a highly competitive application process I successfully secured 1 of only 6 places across Edinburgh in the Unified Schools Programme and completed a work placement in HSBC. The programme was set up to encourage and inspire school pupils to consider and explore career opportunities within the Scottish financial services industry. I completed a week of work experience for my local member of parliament, Christine Jardine. Working in her busy constituency office, my tasks involved me pulling together a daily news report of any relevant local or national news articles to keep her well informed of current affairs. I shadowed case workers within her office pulling together facts and figures that they may require in order to serve constituents. I was also tasked with responding to local residents who had requested information or assistance from her office. Show less
