Mullaneys Solicitors is a diverse general practice specialising in various areas of law and dealing with a broad base of clients from all over Ireland and abroad. Therefore, I had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of cases covering several areas of law. I liaised directly with clients, Counsel, colleagues within the profession and various other public and private organisations in carrying out my responsibilities. I often researched and reported back on legal issues, rules and concepts, focusing on presenting complex matters in an accessible and efficient manner. I was involved in most aspects of the litigation process in some form or another on a daily basis, from the drafting to the days in court. I also worked regularly on matters of residential and commercial conveyancing, debt collection, probate, personal injuries, immigration, crime, contract, employment and elder law. Show less

      • Jan 2014 - Oct 2014

I began in XR Marketing during a year out after completing my Masters Degree in Law. This was a direct marketing job, meaning it involved face-to-face contact with members of the general public each day. I started off as a basic sales representative. Our 'product' was monthly donations to well known national and international charities. Our method was door-to-door cold calling. I thoroughly enjoyed the direct contact with people and being the face of some fantastic charities. Having hit and surpassed my goals regularly and taken on the responsibility of training others in the skills I had gained, I was promoted to Leader. I took on more responsibility including involvement in the day-to-day running of the office and in recruitment, such as by interviewing potential new candidates. I ran a campaign for a charity local to Galway and my team and I generated record revenues from a single income stream for that charity. I was subsequently promoted to Crew Leader. About 2 months later, I felt I had gone as far as I wanted to in XR Marketing and I re-focused towards qualifying as a Solicitor. Show less

In my capacity as a tutor in the School of Law at NUI Galway, I was tasked with preparing and delivering tutorials in the subject of 'Legal Skills' to first year Arts students who had chosen the 'Legal Science' module. The topics that I covered in my tutorials included legal research, legal writing, reading case law, citation and legal opinions. During my time in this role, I worked closely with Mr. Larry Donnelly, Director of Clinical Legal Education, who provided me with great guidance while allowing me the independence to develop the content of each tutorial using my own initiative. As a result, feedback was overwhelmingly positive from both Mr. Donnelly and the students. Show less
