  During my career at, I was tasked to oversee all activities associated with the information and communications technology section of the municipality. I ensured seamless provisioning of IT security, data capture, networks, and end user support. I effectively identified and resolved all issues related to software, hardware, and network to avoid operational delays and assure smooth functionality within the department. I led, assist, and train IT staff in executing assigned tasks or functions efficiently. Also, I streamlined operational activities by executing corrective measures and delivering improvement recommendation. Key achievements during this tenure include: ☛ Modified the Emakhazeni local municipality’s website to deliver real time updates and publishes. ☛ Acknowledged for establishing a fully functional ICT department and securing costs by negotiating pricing with Telkom for the supply of a dedicated fibre optic lines with an independent Metro exchange. ☛ Won the Best Communication Award 2004 for planning and introducing a short messaging system for the municipality that later on adopted by South African Local Government Authority (SALGA) and rolled out to all local municipalities countrywide. ☛ Improved operational and service efficiencies as well as saved a large part of the budget allocation by leading the migration from MS Exchange to Free Open Source System (FOSS) on all Servers. ☛ Negotiated training of two permanent staff members in network routing, VOIP, and internet security with CISCO. Two of my staff qualified in Network Routing, VoIP and Internet Security. This training course was provided free by CISCO in recognition of the achievements in ICT development within ELM in a short space of time.   I was responsible for the servicing requirements of contract clients and was promoted to the position of Supervisor of the contract with the Department of Social Welfare. In this capacity, I was responsible for the co-ordination of six Engineers in the maintenance of the country wide network. Prior to this I worked on contracts with Allied Irish Banks Group, Bank of Ireland Group, Department of the Environment and Bord Failte, (the Irish Tourist Board).   I commenced in the Photographic Dept. initially as this was my area of qualification at the time , and over the years subsequently served in a number of Departments including Silverware, Hi Fi and Computers. I was offered the position of Keyholder for the Store by Management in 1982, which I was happy to accept as it is a position of enormous trust. The Company was later taken over by Brown Thomas, as it is known today.
