Menard Oceania is a specialized geotechnical contractor that focuses on design-build projects, specializing in ground improvement. As part of a global network, the company offers expertise in this field. Within the design team, Harry played a key role in incorporating innovative and value engineering approaches as alternatives to traditional deep foundations. He consistently delivered successful projects, providing exceptional value to clients. Notably, Harry was responsible for managing the ground improvement design for the Batemans Bay Bridge in New South Wales, Australia, as well as conducting design reviews for the Sydney Gateway project in Sydney. Harry's specific expertise lies in designing ground improvement methods using rigid inclusion techniques, particularly control modulus columns (CMC). Additionally, he has developed specialties in designing and implementing shallow soil mixing or mass soil mixing techniques to enhance trenching stability. At Menard, Harry has worked on a diverse range of challenging projects, addressing complex problems with innovative solutions. These projects span various applications such as tanks, roads and bridges, warehouses, subdivisions, drainage works, airports, and service stations. He closely collaborated with the Business Development team to secure projects and ensures seamless project delivery by working closely with the Construction team. Harry also manages the design interface with relevant consultancies, authorities, and contractors. Additionally, he identifies and mitigates risks at the design level and provides advice on appropriate health and safety risk management. Some of the notable projects that Harry was involved in include the Batemans Bay Bridge, Newcastle Bulk Cargo Warehouse, Vopak Sydney Terminal Tanks, Sydney Gateway, Apco Service Station, Kerkin Road Bridge, Burswood Peninsula development, Kwinana Fuel Tanks, and Eraring Ash Dam. The research project represents a contribution to modelling and understanding the interaction of soil-displacement concrete piles. This work not only captures such behaviour elegantly but also includes soil pile interaction which is a remarkable achievement. The numerical results presented and the trends highlighted are entirely new and they will have a lasting impact on practising as well as scientific communities in geotechnical engineering. In particular, the way the installation of the piles was simulated using the spherical and cylindrical cavity expansion theory is the key achievement in this project. Using the cavity expansion theory ensures a careful simulation of the soil displacements and hence the soil-pile interaction. This is critical for the pile-interaction analysis. The development of this model alone coupled with the generation and dissipation of pore pressure constitutes a substantial contribution. The originality of the work is also highlighted through the provision of new experimental data and the development of novel testing procedures for the prediction of soil movements due to pile installation, pore-pressure, stresses and deflections induced in the nearby soils and piles. Assessed the performance of the ground improvement works for the construction of the Saigon Premier Container Terminal, a $360 million sea-port project in Vietnam. The site was underlain by soft soil of up to 60 m deep, which was treated by preloading, surcharge and wick drains, and soil-cement mixing columns. Interpreted instrumentation monitoring data, assessed slope instability and back-analysed consolidation settlement. Investigated the characteristics of faux brick concrete with regard to concrete placement methods, temperature, water content and time. Carried out laboratory testing to assess concrete strength, linear shrinkage and concrete setting time for this type of concrete. Collected and analysed data from numerous residential development sites to assess the actual performance of the fresh concrete that was specially made for faux brick application such as stamping, colouring or stencil.
