Nenad Savic carried out a SECO project as part of his doctoral thesis (approx. 2015-2019) and beyond, at the University in Lausanne (Unisanté): the development of the TREXMO internet platform. TREXMO stands for TRanslation of EXposure Models, www.seco.admin.ch/trexmo. This online tool supports authorities and companies in estimating air concentrations of chemicals in the workplace based on several model estimations. The tool was originally developed as a research project together with the Swiss Centre for Applied Human Toxicology (SCAHT) and the Centre universitaire de médecine générale et santé publique (Unisanté) with shared funding and competence. However, the resulting tool has more than fulfilled its research objectives - especially thanks to the significant participation of Nenad Savic - and is now appreciated and used nationally and internationally as a tool for occupational risk evaluation in the context of chemical registration. Nenad was our direct contact for the development and programming of the tool in this project, and we have always found the collaboration to be efficient, goal-oriented and easy-going. Looking back on his work, we can state that Nenad Savic was extremely quick, creative in tackling the scientific and IT problems presented to him, and always came up with well thought-out solutions where others failed. Nenad speaks and writes English fluently. He has proven himself in many skills: from scientific thinking, to scientific writing, as well as the fast and clean programming of complex models, and the necessary interfaces. On a personal level, Nenad Savic is very interested in all aspects of science, is keen, motivated and extremely hardworking. He has struck us as a very reliable and thoughtful work partner. He has a very friendly and gentle personality and was very much appreciated as a project contact person. In summary, I can highly recommend Nenad Savic.

As researcher: • Major topics: chemical risk assessment, exposure modelling, heat stress, dermal absorption, occupational data analysis, REACH, physical-chemical and statistical models • Conducted statistical analyzes of the performance of different chemical exposure models • Teaching statistical modelling of chemical exposure used within the context of the chemical legislations in EU and Switzerland • Used the Bayesian inference to reduce the uncertainty of the modelled exposure distributions • Published several articles in international journals • Utilized: R (including ggplot2 for visualization) and Python (NumPy, pandas, matplotlib, scikit-learn/sklearn) As web-developer: • Developed TAKTICS (https://www.taktics.app) – A web-tool that evaluates required protection measures against chemicals based on their toxicity – the tool currently used by Takeda and Ferring pharmaceuticals; Taktics integrates the MCMC Bayesian inference (written in R; rpy2 used to link Python with R) to reduce the standard deviation of distribution • Developed Procode (http://www.pro-code.ch) – An Unisanté’s tool for epidemiological studies that classifies free-text entries using the Naïve Bayes text classifier • Utilized: (REST) Django, Python, NLTK, ReactJS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Antd, JWT, Git, HTML, CSS Show less
