The Coop is a member of CHASEO (Cooperative Housing Association of Eastern Ontario) and CHFC (Cooperative Housing Federation of Canada) and also works with the City of Ottawa to administer subsidized housing. As a board member, I work with the Coop manager and other board members to oversee the overall operations of the Coop. This includes a varied number of tasks such as: budgeting and financial matters, administering rent-geared-to income housing as mandated by Ottawa Community Housing, as well as mediation of internal disputes that might arise among members. I facilitate and organize events for members, to engage and further develop a deeper sense of community. Show less

    • Global Educator (Volunteer)
      • Aug 2012 - Jun 2013

CHF (formerly the Canadian Hunger Foundation) is a non-profit organization that works in poor rural communities in Africa, Asia, and South America, to assist these communities in attaining sustainable livelihoods. The "sustainable livelihoods approach" works with the communities and local population to design and implement projects in partnerships with local governments and local organizations. As a Global Educator, I work within the Global Education Program, which brings global poverty issues into the classrooms. This entails coordinating classroom presentations with teachers from the elementary school level, up to high school. I facilitate presentations and workshops to engage with teachers and students, while increasing awareness of the challenges and realities of global hunger. This is an extremely rewarding role, as I connect with the 'next generation' of global citizens in hopes that the process of change will continue. Show less
