We work in teams because we understand that the sum of the team is greater than its constituent parts - diverse voices, differing perspectives, varied backgrounds, skills and experience. All of these things help us create healthy and effective environments that enable great outcomes. One thing (of the many things) that Neil does really well is to help create great team environments whether in development, leadership or community contexts. Using varied methods to allow voices to be heard and as different routes in to alignment and understanding, Neil sews the seeds of inspiration with the people he works with. Servant Leadership is a term that gets used a lot, Neil manifests it through his words and actions - by giving his attention, insight, passion and energy to help others succeed. Neil founded the DisplayLink Testers Community of Practice, which was already fairly mature when I joined the company, with sessions being run by the community members and with a focus on the purpose and ongoing maturity of the group. Neil's involvement and facilitation within external Agile, QA and software groups such as Agile in the Ether, Ministry of Test and Cambridge Agile Exchange formed part of a wider network, enabling pathways for new and innovative methods and techniques into the business. Neil helped others bring their good ideas to clarity, connected like-minded people, created pathways for conversation through to leadership and actively worked to help others grow and develop in the the direction they wanted. I would be glad to work with Neil again in the future and would recommend him for any senior or leadership software role.
