Business Owner

Jan 2007 - Present
I built this business out of my passion for the marine sector so as to provide much needed boating knowledge to a rapidly growing boating community in Melbourne. Starting this business in Docklands, Victoria allowed me to start a family without the usual extended offshore time away, experienced by many professional captains. Hide Tide initially offered Skippering for charters and Driver Training, though soon diversified into vessel management and maintenance, pre-purchase consultancy, project management and on water events management. During the term of this business I have employed a number of people, some with boating experience and some without. Some of these past employees continued their career in the Maritime sector - directly resulting from their training with High Tide. Most of the people that have worked for me are still friends. The skill sets I have strengthened during this time include (though not limited to) Sales and marketing knowledge; Small team leadership; Employee management; Staff hiring processes; Strategic planning; Excellent communication; Customer relationship management - including CRM development The overall product for High Tide Boating is to provide everything my clients need in boating so they can access and enjoy their boating lifestyle with confidence and ease. Or said simply - we help people enjoy boating. To illustrate this my customer feedback from one of our valued customers being the owner of an Outer Reef 63 motor yacht - “The key benefit of our service from High Tide is that for whatever we need we require only one phone number”. Achievements: Learnt about the Resicert business and Franchising (with no prior knowledge) well enough to sell Franchises to enquiries. Instrumental in developing and building a sales campaign in the automation operating system with a high degree of automation in pre qualifying of leads through the sales pipeline. Proven sales conversion of several new Franchisees at a value of $60k per licence Show less

Regional Sales Manager
-
Feb 2016 - Sep 2017
Tufwrap is an Australian company which provides anti-corrosion encapsulation systems and shrink wrapping supplies and services to a vast array of industries, both nationally and internationally. I worked for Tufwrap for a year and a half as their Regional Sales Manager. I was responsible for increasing the sales independently, with the owner who was also working in the sales space at the time. When I started at Tufwrap the business was owned and operated by one person. The owner - Simon Archdale, was the salesman, the administrator and the production / installation technician with the business premise being a home office. Within 6 months of working with Tufwrap we had increased production to the point where we needed to relocate to a commercial office / factory space and had employed an additional installation technician. By the time I left the business we had employed another 2 casual installation technicians in order to complete all the incoming contracts. My reason for leaving - I needed to move to Mornington for my family, and travel to the office in Tullamarine could take up to 3 hours each way. Show less

Owner Builder
-
2007 - 2007
I inherited a block of land in Dunkeld, Victoria which had been in my family since 1973. In honour of this land I decided to build on it. I imported a log cabin kit home from Finland. This 2 story home took me 1 year to build (part time whilst working) with the majority of the construction being personally carried out by myself and the rest I project managed. As an owner-builder I further developed my skill sets in: Project Management Technical Building Knowledge Financial, taxation and Legal knowledge Site Safety knowledge Time Management skills Coordination skills Communication Skills - both with contractors and government agencies Dispute handling skills Show less

Dive Boat Skipper
-
2003 - 2004
This was by far one of the most challenging and personally rewarding positions and was the opportunity of a lifetime. My role was to skipper various boats for scuba diving tours around the Island. Whilst working there the owner of Big Blue 33 purchased a 12 meter vessel which he had refitted as a scuba dive support boat. Soon after purchase it became apparent that the engine and sterndrive needed attention. Being that marine trades were limited on the island, I had to perform the needed work myself. This included: refitting the raw water system and removal and installation of a new stern-drive unit. I have alway been mechanically minded and never afraid to just “give it a go”. Show less
