  As Director of Capital Projects, I oversee the Preservation and Gardens teams that work to restore, landscape, garden and maintain the 48 acres that make up Oakland Cemetery, a historic rural garden style cemetery. A main focus of my role is to manage new capital projects, which will include new construction, reconstruction, restoration, infrastructure and sustainability upgrades, vehicular and pedestrian traffic flows and safety, and planning for the future stewardship of Oakland's historic and modern fabric.

  Historic Oakland Foundation, formed in 1976, carries out its mission to preserve, restore, enhance, and share Historic Oakland Cemetery, final resting place for 70,000 Atlantans. Dating to 1850 and modeled as a Victorian garden cemetery setting, Oakland presents unique preservation challenges in the form of gravestones, monuments, walls, walkways, and buildings. As the Director of Preservation I oversee our in-house preservation tradespeople, contractors, research assistants and volunteers. I also manage the general maintenance operations of the Foundation, including logistics for special events. I engage with stakeholders and potential donors to ensure the long-term vision of HOF remains intact.

  As the Architectural Conservator for Mount Vernon, I was responsible for maintaining the historic fabric of the mansion and its outbuildings. My work included cyclical maintenance as well as targeted preservation and restoration projects. Many projects were handled by myself and others in-house; however, when necessary I helped coordinate and manage contractors, including engineers, architects, conservators, and preservation/restoration tradespeople. Most projects involved coordination with other staff members, including archaeologists, curators, and interpretive staff. The education of interpreters and patrons about preservation projects - the reasons for the work, the process, and any new findings - was also an important part of my role.
