Art is my life. Literally. My job is to create diverse and interesting programming for students grade 1-12 at our multi-faceted, non-profit Arts Center. We have a long running arts-based preschool, three galleries with seminal, rotating artwork, two performance spaces that host music, drama, and dance events, studios utilized by community members, and an education program. I am currently working on integrating science into our arts programming, turning STEM to STEAM. Many excellent opportunities are on the horizon including more middle and high school workshops, creating a makerspace, outreach in the public schools, and collaboration within our community. I am thrilled to be a part of this far-reaching, change-making arts organization and I extend my hand to anyone who would like to be a part of bettering our community through the arts. Show less

Art Educator
-
Aug 2010 - Oct 2014
I have taught a multitude of courses including Jewelry, Ceramics, Sculpture, Graphic Design, Design, Drawing, Painting, and Printmaking. I participated as a member of the School Improvement Team, the Heritage Committee, Class Sponsor, after school tutor, Art Club Sponsor, and Public Relations for Drama. Much of the school's graphic design was undertaken by myself or my class. I acquired an old vending machine and converted it to a functioning Art-o-Mat that dispenses students' artwork and funds scholarships for students. I organized many field trips and art shows, ensuring our students were a working part of the community. I collaborated with numerous artists from the surrounding area bringing them in as guest teachers and presenters. I worked with advanced students placing them into internships within the arts and design community in Topeka. Show less

I worked at both a middle school and an alternative high school in Art and English Language/Literature courses. I established an Art Club that provided opportunities to lower income students to create and sell their art. I participated in National Novel Writing Month having students write and edit novels and novellas. I helped write the School Improvement Plan with another teacher for Fir Ridge Alternative High School. I ran a small screen printing business in Bellingham, Washington that produced t-shirts and album artwork for local bands. In addition to this, I designed graphic art for clothing that I have sold in Seattle, Minneapolis, and Chicago.
