Job Purpose: The role holder is responsible for coordination and participation in a variety of complex technical tasks in the performance of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Job Description: 1. Coordinates and participate in the performance and interpretation of complex technical duties in support of medical laboratory testing, record determinations, and results for review by laboratory management and physician/ caregiver staff. 2. Participates in specimen collection when required according to the test requested, either directly by venipuncture or skin puncture; maintain responsibility for patient identification, specimen labeling, and collection verification or instructing patients or other health care providers in collection and preservation techniques for urine, sputum, stool, scraping, autologous/directed donations or other specimens for analysis. 3. Sets up, evaluates, and operates current and new equipment, instruments, and apparatus required for specific laboratory tests, and assumes adequate responsibility to maintain operations including preventive maintenance. 4. Coordinates the preparation and quality assurance of culture media, chemicals, reagents, stains, and solutions as appropriate. 5. Evaluates collected laboratory data and prepares reports assessing accuracy, completeness, timeliness, progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendation or conclusions. 6. Participates in the development of new medical laboratory procedures and techniques. Provides technical guidance and instruction to students, interns, residents, staff, and other employees. 7. Participate in the development and implementation of clinical evaluations. 8. Monitors quality control, quality assurance, safety, and infection control practices to assure compliance with inventory and external regulations. Show less
