Materials Science Intern

• Designed, developed, and perfected a customised Potentiostat procedure for corrosion testing and hydrogen charging based on the ASTM G59 standard for Iron-Nickel-Chromium alloys, achieving a >95% accuracy compared to literature values. • Tested alloys with varying Chromium content (9wt% to 25wt%) to determine their polarization resistance and corrosion rate, successfully demonstrating that Chromium content has a negative correlation with corrosion rate. • Demonstrated and theorised 3 different mechanisms of corrosion protection used by Type 316 steel, 25Cr, and 9Cr Duplex stainless steel under different corrosion conditions. • Characterized the microstructure of alloys using scanning electron microscopy and performed mechanical testing to determine alloy strength. • Optimized a heat treatment process by finding the optimal stacking sequence of metal samples in a basket for multiple processes. • Trained a team of 12 metallurgists and technicians on the principles of corrosion, the utilisation of a potentiostat and corrosion abating techniques, allowing successful use of the machinery. I undertook an educational course in 'Proteomics' from Edufabrica, in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur, where I learned about proteins and protein engineering. Alongside learning, I also led a research group on the methods by which proteins are modified in this internship, consisting of undergraduates from across India. I worked as a high-school researcher at my high school's Chemistry Club. During the ongoing pandemic, I wrote a research paper (DOI:10.13140/RG.2.2.19943.27047) for my Chemistry Club titled "A statistical case study, involving several vaccines, about biological hurdles and applications of computational biology in Vaccine Development" that dwelled into the production of vaccines, their hurdles, and the future.
