At the same time, they are also becoming more democratic, with the input of increasingly diverse stakeholder groups. These should be positive trends, but tools and techniques for planning, design, and project management have not kept pace. As a result, they are increasingly unable to deal with the complexity of modern infrastructure projects, resulting in large-scale cost overruns and delays. I founded Podaris to solve this problem. It is a platform for real-time interdisciplinary planning and design of infrastructure projects, putting collaboration and transparency front and centre. Using the power of modern cloud-collaboration techniques, Podaris will enable infrastructure planning to be a far more agile process, reducing the communications gaps between disciplines from months to milliseconds. Podaris participated in StartupBootCamp's Smart Transport & Energy accelerator in August 2015, and launched its first tool -- a web-based transport planning application -- in November 2105. The research project went so well that Futurescaper unexpectedly evolved into a commercial platform. Major customers include the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UK government, the OECD, the Rockefeller Foundation, the World Economic Forum and the Futures Company. I led the technical development of the platform from its inception and through several phases of development, periodically acting as CTO. Today my role is mostly hands-off, but I maintain a significant stake in the company and occasionally interact with customers where new product developments are concerned. Show less
