As Editor-In-Chief of The Barnacle, I run and manage Quinnipiac’s satirical newspaper that publishes a new print issue every month. My responsibilities include holding weekly pitch meetings for an editorial staff of twenty, utilizing WordPress to format our paper and website, and consistently writing satirical articles on current events, news, and whatever else I find funny at the moment! This position requires constantly researching and staying up to date on current events, in order to write relevant articles that are both funny, while simultaneously providing some kind of social or political commentary as well. This is a very collaborative process and through my time as editor I have learned to be self sufficient, as well as to rely on my staff to contribute ideas and perspectives that create a dynamic paper capable of representing the many viewpoints of my campus.

In order to ensure every seat was sold for these shows, I utilized SEO and other online marketing techniques to reach the broadest range of people possible, while simultaneously targeting these adds at people who would be interested in, and likely to buy tickets. Above all I honed my written and oral communication skills, as I would regularly interact with potential customers looking to take classes, as well as big names in the comedy industry. These interactions had to feel professional and comfortable, and it was through my time as an intern here I came to excel in this position. As a plus, as an intern here I got to perform stand up at these shows as well, and so I feel extremely comfortable with public speaking and conveying ideas in a clear and engaging way.
