Sydney Area, Australia I established AustraliaWOW! to design, develop and produce our web-based health and fitness software. The system completely automates the running of a personal trainer's business - from billing through the client motivation through to their nutrition and meal plans. It has been battle-tested on my own clients, and now forms the daily log-in ritual for over 30,000 fitness professionals and their clients around the world. London, United Kingdom When a disaster strikes, the priority for any business is the survival and safety of their workers. This task of ensuring the welfare of staff during extreme events commonly falls on the HR department, and can be a logistical challenge to even the largest of corporations: Phones are jammed; Embassies can't provide accurate information; NGO's are inundated. Adopting this human resource perspective, aretheysafe elegantly addressed the task of maintaining a live and accurate register for ALL staff - whether they be in the field in Libya or in a Central London office. The HR Dpt. could check, within a single mouse click, the live status of all their employees, as they use SMS (text messaging on any mobile phone) or the web to "check in" with their HR Department. It was all designed to be extremely simple and low-hassle with virtually no learning curve: After all, in case of an emergency, people just need to have an employee accountability system, just work. Simple and effective. The system was totally free for individuals to sign up and to search for individuals. This was my way of giving something back to the world community in the way I knew how. I sold the business and the IP to a third party who is a World Leading company in security solutions due to work commitments with AustraliaWOW! not allowing me to spend the increasing time on the project. Greatest achievement included winning the AUD$1.2M contract to provide a wide area network to 39 residential care-home sites around Australia: The contract was awarded to us despite ASX-listed IT companies bidding for the work. The site count had expanded to over 40 by the time I sold the company, and was very successfully rolled out using thin client technology. The company remains profitable and is now expanded in 4 countries. Show less

Technical Support Engineer

1999 - 1999
Northampton, United Kingdom Worked as a technical support engineer. Role included designing, installing and supporting LAN and WAN infrastructure for companies around the UK. Technologies were mostly limited to Microsoft-based software and Cisco routers. I unsuccessfully tried to introduce the company to cloud-based computing for their clients (due to my experience in Australia with my company), so moved on.

Cambridge, United Kingdom I got headhunted for this position. My initial role was to sort through three years' worth of various IT hardware that had been brought back by field service engineers and left in an unknown state of repair. I had vast knowledge of IT equipment down to component level, so this role was ideal. I managed to clear the entire inventory backlog within three months of my initial start date. The role then shifted to a field support position, where I traveled around the UK to support a vast range of IT equipments such as servers, printers and workstations. This role did not require any software or networking knowledge (it was pure break/fix), and I left to further my software expertise. Show less
