    • Arts Research Director
      • Sep 2016 - Present

Between 2016 - 2019 I contributed as an artist and as the Arts Research Director to a Japanese Government Kakenhi funded project investigating relationships between olfactory art and wellbeing, with particular focus on the elderly and dementia, for a project initiated by Dr. Yuriko Sugihara, coordinating with the Arts Project Director Dr. Yoko Iwasaki and the international group of artists collaborating on the project. Over the duration of this research project a number of public exhibitions were held in Japan, France and Sweden. Information about this can be found here: https://www.olfactoryresearch.net/research In 2019 further funding from Kakenhi Japan was provided to continue this research, enabling my collaboration with the Japanese artist Reiko Kubota to include working with psychologists and olfactory specialists in Japan. This will continue until 2023, with our research focusing on the creation of olfactory artefacts that can be used in care home environments to enhance narrative memory recall and well-being.
