    • Resident Advisor
      • Mar 2014 - May 2017

The Resident Advisor (RA) position is a position that poses many challenges. It requires great soft skills, proper planning, crisis management, and adaptability. Being able to effectively communicate with residents and colleagues is essential to the RA position, as being a resource for the residents requires these soft skills for the plethora of different personality types. In order to provide the best experience for the residents, planning of programs and events is a must. Finding the proper balance between academic and social programming to draw in the residents is a challenge within itself, but proper advertising and personal relationships really help strengthen attendance in programs and the community as a whole. Since the job requires living in the residence hall, being available around the clock is expected. With that it requires being able to handle any situation that may arise at any time. The Residence Life department is constantly changing, as is required in the college student industry. It is imperative to be able to adapt and overcome to any challenges that arise. Overall, the Resident Advisor position requires a well-rounded individual with a specific skill set, and those skills are honed and perfected on a daily basis. Show less
