    • Professor of English
      • Aug 2007 - Present

I routinely teach courses in undergraduate writing and an introductory course to literature. I serve on a variety of college-wide and department committees, having assumed leadership in some of them. I served as Chair of the Educational Affairs Committee, Chair of the Faculty Sabbatical Committee, and President of the Faculty Senate. While employed at JCCC, I earned a PhD in English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania through its summer programs. In addition, I completed an MA in Humanities--Literature through online courses at California State University--Dominguez Hills. I love to learn, love to teach. I now have 2 doctoral degrees, 2 master's degrees, and 2 bachelor's degrees. Since the pandemic, I have wholeheartedly embraced the use of technology in every course, including in face-to-face courses. All of my lesson materials are available to students online. My research interests have explored the perceptions of faculty members about the "essence" of college-level writing. More recently, I am interested in using visual rhetoric to explore the perpetuation of, and the resistance to, Western neocolonial influences in Asian countries. I have every intention to continue teaching at Johnson County Community College until retirement. However, I would be interested in pursuing post-retirement teaching opportunities as a visiting scholar/professor, particularly in overseas locations. Show less

      • Dec 2005 - Jun 2007

After returning to the US from Taiwan, I searched for a tenure-line faculty position in American community colleges. For a time, I became a "Roads Scholar." I taught multiple English courses on an as-needed basis at various institutions. The host institutions included Blue River Communty College, Johnson County Community College, Mohawk Valley Community College, and the University of Kansas. Johnson County Community College offered me a full-time faculty position. From this experience, I learned about the importance of focus, flexibilty, patience, and endurance for working in American higher education. Show less
