Non-Point Source Pollution and Watershed Management Summer Intern

Worked with the Non-Point Source Pollution and Watershed Management teams in an on-going effort to reduce selenium and nitrate loading to the Lower Arkansas River in south-east Colorado. Conducted a watershed characterization of the Lower Arkansas watershed. Compiled existing data and research into a readable format to highlight data needs. Used ArcGIS in the creation of maps to convey the variables at play. Communicated with stakeholders and members of a workgroup as part of efforts to improve water quality in the region. Conducted research and submitted proposals to fund soil health education and promotion in the region. Gained experience working with the Clean Water Act, Section 303(d) Impaired Waters and Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs), and 319 Non-point source pollution grants.Additional tasks included a site visit to an on-going mine remediation and trainings such as the EPA Watershed Academy, Water Quality Criteria, and Environmental Health and Safety (24 hour).
