Member Works Council

The Works Council serves as representation for all the organisation's employees and it is concerned with the relationship between worker's interests and the organisation's business interests. Within VUE Nederland, the Works Council consists of 13 members, of which I am one.

As a Supervisor you run the floor to make sure everything goes according to the carefully prepared filmprogramme. You supervise roughly 10-16 service employees during the time your shift lasts. Alongside this you're responsible for handling complaints, problems and other more rare events like problems with the projectors and other technical problems. Also, several administrational tasks are included. You're responsible for counting the cash drawers, filling out revenue numbers and end of day tasks. As a member of the programme committee you're responsible for guaranteeing the education quality. After every semester it is required to make a report on every course based upon your own experiences, conversations with other students and the filled out online course evaluations. These reports are discussed in a meeting together with the other members, including several professors. There are also meetings with the Faculty Student Council and a contribution is being made to the annual report.

VU and School of Business and Economics Ambassador

As a VU and SBE ambassador you're responsible for giving presentations to current high school students and other future students. These presentations can be about the VU in general or specifically about Business Administration. The function also includes attending open days to answer questions about the programme, grading the matching tests at the beginning of the new year, meeloopdagen and other activities to make the VU and SBE sound appealing to the future students.

Washington Trip Committee member

When I joined this committee our job was to organise a trip to Washington DC during the Presidential Elections of 2020. Unfortunately, due to the worldwide pandemic of the Coronavirus this was deemed impossible. We changed the planning multiple times during the course of the pandemic. First, we planned a course about the elections concluded by a paper. We aimed to get the course recognised by the Examination Board so the students following the course could earn some additional EC's. However, this was deemed impossible when the spread of COVID-19 through The Netherlands started to increase again around October 2020. Next, we spoke about an election event, which we intended to take place during the night of the elections in November 2020. Since a physical event like this again wouldn't be possible, we approached the idea of an Inauguration Event on the 20th of January 2021. The pandemic however raced through the country and we realised that any event wouldn't be able to meet our satisfaction so we unfortunately canceled the event altogether. The collaboration between our team went great. We dealt with all issues and I'm proud of all ideas that we managed to develop to adapt to the external forces of COVID. Show less
