The ground-breaking microLED technology has higher efficiency, unmatched pixel size and brightness and is set to disrupt the entire LED market and is a key enabler for AR displays (Augmented Reality). With a strong passion for tech ventures , at LEAD I work as a stand-in CEO and as an expert in supporting new entrepreneurs and start-ups by verifying and developing their market opportunities and business models. The goal is always to find and develop scalable ventures . So far, I have worked with over 30 new companies ranging from Medtech and cleantech to SaaS and advanced materials. Typical start-ups are both more mature ventures in need of a turnaround and completely new technologies often with the fundamental question “we have this invention; can we commercialise it?”. Verifying these business opportunities has meant talking to over 1000 different stakeholders in various value-chain s from users and hands-on technicians to CEOs and industry key opinion leaders. Through extensive analysis, their answers have been used to go from the identification of potential markets to the quantification of customers’ needs and first sales. It has also been used to find scalable and circular business models and go-to-market strategies as well as getting the means to realise this potential through securing external capital and soft money. Currently, I am also working with the incubator to develop methods to, not only deal with technologies and markets but also to help facilitate the personal development journey for people in research to go from scientist to entrepreneur. At Ionautics I am responsible for creating and implementing a HaaS business model and preparing the company for scaling. This means iteratively validating market needs and business models through sales and market interaction. This knowledge is used to create the needed structures for scaling, such as selecting and implementing CRM systems, market automation tools, formalising documents as well as creating repeatable processes that can scale and grow with the company. This journey I am taking together with a multidisciplinary team where all have different educational and experience backgrounds.Simultaneously, I am continuing the in-house start-up journey that started at the Entrepreneurs in Residence program at LEAD where we are commercialising a nanoparticle source producing materials for the green hydrogen market. This work includes establishing the customer need, early sales, securing external funding, determining the market potential as well as finding and executing a suitable business model to reach that potential.
