I worked as a registered nurse at EPUT since qualifying in March 2005. I have worked on Acute inpatient units, Older adult units and in community teams for 12 years before being a charge nurse/site coordinator in July 2017.As a charge nurse, it is my job to support the wards and community teams, particularly outside of office hours. During this time, I will look at the bed availability, ward activities and staffing levels. I have authorisation to deploying staff to other wards, in addition, to see whether it is necessary to look required for agency staffing. I act as the main contact to the duty manager regarding any situation that specifically requires them to be involved. Any concerns come to me, I assess the situation and inform the manager if/when necessary.Part of my current role is to bed manage, which means that I will receive phone calls from the Hospital Liaison Team, Approved Mental Health Professional services and other hospitals to find beds for service users who are from the North Essex area. This was a new role in the North part of the Trust so I was able to help develop it into what is now. The role was initially for 3 months however I have remained in this role for the last 3 years. Since then I have had three other colleagues join me in this role, covering weekends and working opposite nights. They have shadowed me before taking on the role alone. The feedback we have received from on-call managers has been positive as it appears to have relieved some of the pressure they are under overnight. Show less
