I worked at Inca Creative for my professional placement year. The job involved creating technical designs for shop fixtures and large scale visual merchandising displays. Receiving client briefs and seeing them through to installation provided me with many valuable experiences. My knowledge of manufacturing processes has vastly improved, as well as my ability to communicate directly with the manufacturers and also clients. Design School Committee Rag SIO
-
Oct 2016 - Jun 2017
Rag is the section of committee responsible for organising and raising awareness of charity events. I'm also worked on making the design school more sustainable, by introducing a scheme to make it easier for students to reuse each other's leftover material. At the shared stained glass and ceramic studio, I learnt about the process of making a stained glass window. From creating and developing design ideas based on the clients brief, adapting the design based on client feedback, to the 7 stages of manufacture. I was then able to design and produce two of my own stained glass windows. It's fascinating how good lighting can bring something to life. It was inspiring working in a studio amongst successful designers, who sell their products to the… Show more At the shared stained glass and ceramic studio, I learnt about the process of making a stained glass window. UNIQ Material Science Summer School
-
Jul 2014 - Jul 2014
The summer school at Oxford University involved experiencing what the life of a Materials Science student is like, attending lectures and seminars by Oxford academics and being mentored by current undergraduates, as well as working in the labs. It was a valuable experience, and helped trigger an interest in smart materials and how valuable it is to exploit the latent potential in nature.
